Mission Statement

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a multi-tendency political activist organization.  We are not a political party.  We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.  We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.

The mission of Tampa DSA is to build our socialist power structure to meet the needs of the people. We use direct action, political education, work in coalition with labor and leftist organizations, and at times electoral campaigns to promote socialist causes such as worker rights, anti-racism, lgbtq rights, feminism, immigrant rights, environmental justice, and anti-imperialism.

Our politics embrace solidarity, and we seek to empower the working class while weakening the power of the corporate class.  We seek to connect the ideology of socialism with the issues that affect the working class, like the transformation of our justice system, housing, transportation, and healthcare.  Our mission is carried out democratically, with a bottom-up, horizontal structure from within our organization. Our strategy in Tampa DSA is to organize the metropolitan and the rural, to unify the left locally, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally, and focus on broad coalition work to help build a mass movement of the left.
