Healthcare should be a human right for everyone, but medical debt is the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the United States. Hillsborough County alone has $244 million in medical debt. This problem doesn’t exist in countries with universal healthcare. While we continue fighting for single-payer, universal healthcare in the U.S., we must take immediate action to help those burdened by medical debt.
As of May 25th, Tampa DSA, in collaboration with Undue Medical Debt, has raised over $11,000 and cancelled over $1.1 million of medical debt for Hillsborough County residents!
